For the press
I became friends with Moscow poet and artist Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov in 1977, and our enduring friendship continued for another 30 years until he died. Taking photos of D. A. P. was an absolute joy as far as I was concerned: he was not bothered by the camera but neither did he pretend to be unaware of it - he could instantly make best use of any situation with his inborn virtuosity and irony. Prigov wrote in one of his poems:'life is short, art is long, but life wins the battle'. To avoid this battle and reconcile life and art, Prigov turned his own life into a work of art. Not only did he produce a poem and drawing every day, give frequent readings of his work, participate in exhibitions and enact performance art, he created the image of an author for whom there is no difference between the practice of art and everyday life. It is precisely this life-in-creation project that I tried to record in my photographs of Dmitry Alexandrovich.
